A nine-week Spanish Conversation Course led by Daniel Watman will be offered beginning on Feb. 14 at the Imperial Beach United Methodist Church on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The registration cost is $245 per student. However, if 15 or more students register, the cost will go down to $200. Class size is limited to 20 students.
The instructor Watman has dedicated his life to getting people to make friends across cultural barriers. He started teaching Spanish 20 years ago in Ensenada to foreigners from the US and other countries and has since received his masters degree in Spanish Linguistics with a thesis on border socio-linguistics. He has lived in San Diego/Tijuana for the last nineteen years and has been a Spanish teacher in San Diego as well as headed the group “Border Encuentro” that brings people together across the border at Friendship Park under common interest themes such as yoga classes, binational gardening, poetry readings, and language exchanges. He has brought English and Spanish speakers together throughout the region and creates cross-cultural exchanges with people in Tijuana as part of the courses he teaches in San Diego.
The school’s philosophy and method is to learn languages through making friends and includes an optional field trip every three weeks to Tijuana and/or Friendship Park to meet friends in Tijuana that are introduced during the course by Skype. Check out more information on the course on the Escuela Amistad Facebook Page or contact Watman directly at firstname.lastname@example.org or 619-335-3176.
